Today’s Thoughts

Welcoming the warmer temps to melt our latest snowfall.

I was surprised to see the damage of flash flooding in San Diego following record rain fall in a short time. Living in the AZ desert, I am familiar with the dangers of flash flooding and the danger they exhibit.

After NH primaries it is going to be a long, long time until Nov 4 and election day. Even court convictions will not stop Trump.

Weird History…

In The 19th Century Ketchup Was Considered A Cure For An Upset Stomach

Ketchup has come a long way since the 19th century! Back then, it was believed that ketchup could be used to cure an upset stomach. This strange idea originated in England and quickly spread throughout Europe. The recipe for this concoction included anchovies, mushrooms, walnuts, spices, vinegar, and of course tomatoes. It was thought that these ingredients had medicinal properties which would help settle an unsettled stomach. While we may not consider ketchup as a remedy today, there is something special about knowing its history and how far it's come over the years.

Untrue myths about Colonial America…States that never made the map

All Continental Soldiers Were Ragged and Half-Starved

Although there were some instances such as Valley Forge, in which countless Continental soldiers almost froze to death and died of starvation, the conditions of the soldiers varied greatly depending on the region.

A young Private Martin, stationed not far from Valley Forge even wrote, "We had very good provisions all year round," and that he lived in a "snug room." Upon encountering one of his former officers, the officer asked, "Where have you been this winter? You're fat as a pig!" In the end, while some died from harsh conditions, others lived rather luxuriously.

The common idea that success spoils people by making them vain, egotistic and self-complacent is erroneous; on the contrary it makes them, for the most part, humble, tolerant and kind. Failure makes people bitter and cruel.

While fame impedes and constricts, obscurity wraps about a man like a mist; obscurity is dark, ample, and free; obscurity lets the mind take its way unimpeded. Over the obscure man is poured the merciful suffusion of darkness. None knows where he goes or comes. He may seek the truth and speak it; he alone is free; he alone is truthful, he alone is at peace53 – Ana Ortiz, American actress
50 – Geoff Johns, American author, screenwriter, and producer
