Today’s Thoughts

Another storm is due tonight…1-3” of snow expected…and me with a 9a Dr. appointment.

I’m keeping on eye on Gaza. I’m concerned that Netanyahu is not buying any two-state solution. This war could expand very soon.

I’m wondering why so many Republican candidates run on ‘I’m the alternative to Trump’, then drop out and tell their voters to Vote for Trump. Baffling for sure.

Weird History…

Alexander The Great Was Accidentally Buried Alive

Alexander the Great was one of the most influential figures in ancient history, conquering much of the known world by the age of 32. But what many don't know is that he almost didn't make it to his 33rd birthday - because he was accidentally buried alive! After a night of drinking with friends, Alexander fell into such a deep sleep that those around him thought he had died. To honor their beloved leader, they hastily prepared a funeral and proceeded to bury him alive. Fortunately, someone noticed signs of life just as the dirt started to pile up and quickly uncovered Alexander before it was too late. It's a wild story that sounds like something out of a movie, but it's true - an incredible testament to Alexander's strength and resilience.

Civil War Facts

Gunfire at Fort Sumter

On April 11, 1861, President Lincoln alerted South Carolina Gov. Francis Pickens of his plans to send supplies to the garrison at Fort Sumter rather than prepare for its evacuation. Consequently, Confederate Gen. P.G.T. Beauregard demanded that Robert Anderson—the U.S. Army commander of the post—surrender.

Anderson offered to do so only after exhausting his supplies. Wanting the fort emptied before a resupply could reach it, the Confederacy opened fire in the early hours of April 12. On April 14, the siege ended with the fort's evacuation.

Untrue myths about Colonial America…States that never made the map

Stairs Were Built With A Shorter Or Taller Top Step To Warn of Burglars

If a burglar is creeping up the stairs in the dark of night and the final step before a rise or at the top is shorter, this would cause their foot to come down harder than expected. This would act as a type of alarm that could wake up the residence of the house.

Although it looks like some colonial staircases were built possibly, for this reason, that's not actually why. The real reason is that building a staircase is incredibly complex, especially back then, and stairs were built from the bottom up. This usually resulted in the top stair either being a little higher or shorter than the rest.
