Today’s Thoughts
A nice breezy day
here.
I stubbed my foot
(the three smallest toes) last night. A little painful to walk, but don’t think
I did any real damage.
I got my haircut
this morning and the stylist did a very good job. After the hassle of getting
the appointment, it was worth it.
The State Dept.
issued a travel advisory of Level 4 (the highest) for travel to Russia. I am so
thankful that I traveled there in a much better time.
Today marks the 40th
anniversary of the Columbia disaster. I was at Red Lake, a small school that
was fairly isolated. Most of our students were coming in every day from a
hogan. My boss found a guy who would hook up satellite TV for the school library.
It was hooked up in time for the Columbia flight that had a teacher/astronaut
on board. We set up a couple of TVs and had the 5th-8th
grade students watch the liftoff. After it exploded soon after liftoff, our
students went back to class. Teachers spent time explaining what they had just
seen. All of America was is shock. If I remember correctly, we never used the satellite
again for ‘news’ stories.
Trivia
Rhode Island Has More
People Than Alaska
One might think that the smallest state in the union has
few bragging rights over the largest state. However, Rhode Island has a higher
population than does Alaska. Despite the fact that Alaska is 425 times larger than the smallest state, its people population is estimated to be only about 733,000.
On the other hand, the population of Rhode Island was 1,095,610 as of July 2021. The land mass and population ratio means "Little Rhody" has more than 700 times more people per square mile than Alaska. But more importantly, which one has more moose?
