My
Rambling Thoughts
OK,I’m home and back in
the bureaucratic rat race. First I went to the blood doc for a draw to check my
red blood cell count and some test to see if I have anemia. I asked when the
results of the RBC would be ready since I hadn’t been in the country and hadn’t
had a phlebotomy for 3 weeks. She said an hour. I asked how I could get the information.
She said call the nurse in about an hour and she can tell you. I called and got
a voice mail…4 hours later she still hasn’t called back. Then I call the
company for my CPAC machine. The guy who does it isn’t in but will be in about
an hour. I call back and he is busy, but the guy tells me that Medicare won’t
cover the oxygen needed with the CPAC because the sleep study people didn’t do
the right test. But that BC/BS would cover it. So I call the sleep study
people. Leave another voice message and find out 3 hours later that the guy is
wrong. Call the guy and he says the sleep study people are wrong. I ask him
what to do. Nothing, just let BC pay for it. No…if Medicare will cover it, they
should. He finally agrees to call the sleep study people. Awaiting someone’s
answer. I pick up the machinery tomorrow, I am told but won’t believe it until
it is plugged in and working.
Our time is Barcelona was
really enjoyable. Then we headed for Arles, France where we board our ship.
Along the way we visit several medieval towns and I learn about the impact the
Roman Empire had on this part of France. At the end of Day 5 we are on the AmaDiago
and awaited a wonderful welcome dinner.
I am glued to the Olympic
Finals. Watching these athletes give it their all is inspiring. Watching world
records broken is great. Seeing competitors hug and shake hands with a winner after
they are defeated gives us all faith in the human race. So many great life
stories, and Kudos to the Olympic planners for having a refugee team.

The Captive Assassin
Trick
brain teasers appear difficult at first, but they have a trick that makes them
really easy.
Listo, the leader of a
band of assassins, was taken captive by an opposing kingdom.
"Give your
daggers," said one of the generals, "Or you are to be executed. But
since you killed so many of our knights, we shall give you a small test. You
must say a statement. If the statement is true, we burn you on a stake. If the
sentence is false, we stab you through the heart. If you do not say anything,
you are thrown to the lions. If you say something we can't verify, you will be
forced to drink a cup of hemlock. If it is not a statement or if it is a
paradox, we simply toss you into the nearby volcano. We shall give you one hour
to ponder."
What should Listo say?

Fish to Bring Home
Mr. Jones is on a business
trip and has bought some fish to bring home to his wife.
The fish was very expensive, so Mr. Jones decides to hide it until the next
day, when he would leave the hotel. The fish is well-packaged in multiple
layers of paper, so Mr. Jones hides it between the leaves of a rather large
plant in his room.
On the day of his departure, Mr. Jones oversleeps and has to hastily pack all
his stuff in order to catch his train. He, of course, forgets the fish.
Embarrassed about his mishap, he doesn't tell the hotel when he finds out.
Two weeks later, he gets a message from the hotel that says: "Dear Mr.
Jones ... all is forgiven. Just tell us ... where is it?!?!"

New York Police Department
The NYPD has around 40,000
sworn officers which is no small potatoes for a police force. The next largest
force belongs to Chicago which, to give you a bit of perspective, has around
12,000 sworn officers. This week, however, one police department accumulated of
about 3,500 sworn members, tragically lost five of them in an assassination
during a peaceful protest. Dallas Police Department Chief David Brown has
called for calm and unity in the wake of the attack. In attendance at the
interfaith service for the fallen soldiers were former President George W.
Bush, former first lady Laura Bush and current President Barack Obama and first
lady Michelle Obama. As former President Bush said during his eulogy on
Tuesday, "We're proud of the men we mourn." Source:

All ‘data’ info is from the internet sites and
is usually checked with at least one other source, but I have learned that
every site contains mistakes and sadly once the information is out there, many
sites simply copy it and is therefore difficult to verify. Also for events
occurring before the Gregorian calendar was adopted [1582] the dates may not be
totally accurate.
