My Rambling Thoughts
Ah,
ready for a new month. Cannot believe how quickly this year is passing.
Headed
out this morning for my weekly visit to Sam’s Club. Needed gas and other stuff.
Good trip that only cost $200.
No

Election
results are in. Don’t understand Rep. voters in our state. They voted to have
both John McCain and Sheriff Arpario to be on the Nov. ballot for their party.
McCain has really changed since his Presidential loss…and not for the better.
Arpario is under Federal indictment on several charges of discrimination.
Strange indeed.

Defy
Gravity
Language brain teasers are those that involve the English language. You
need to think about and manipulate words and letters.
The
following is an advertisement for a common item. The ad agency, however, is
trying to entice buyers by making the item sound more impressive than it really
is. Can you tell what is being sold here?
DEFY GRAVITY!

Keeping
the Beat
The
conductor of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra was having an issue with the
percussion section. During rehearsals, it seems they were having a major
problem keeping the proper beat, and the conductor was getting madder by the
moment.
"Uh oh," one of the drummers remarked. "I think he's ready to
blow."
"You're right," said the cymbal player. "It looks like we're in
for a real tempo tantrum!"

World Gravy Wrestling Championship -----*
More than 20 competitors gathered at a pub in England to battle each other in a
pool of gravy for the World Gravy Wrestling Championships, because apparently
wrestling in it is preferable to eating it, like much of British food.
"The Weather is fine and the Gravy is wet," the World Gravy Wrestling
Championships Facebook page wrote on the day of the event. "A Fun Family
day filled with hilarious wrestling moves and costumes in a thick Lancashire
Gravy." According to the BBC, hundreds of people watched as 16 men and
eight women participated in two minute bouts inside a padded 14 foot by 13 foot
pool to determine a champion. Event organizer Andy Holt said the competition is
"harder than it looks" and admitted that the aim of the competition
is not necessarily designed to determine the best fighter. "The points
system is more about entertainment," he said. "It is crazy, but it is
all about having fun and it is for a great cause."
P.S. If you're into British women covered in gravy, you might want to do a
Google image search of this event.

Somewhat Useless Information
Inflation
is a long-term, sustained rise in the general level of prices, as measured by a
consumer price index. But why?
***
Inflation
is primarily caused by an increase in the money supply that outpaces economic
growth.
Ever since industrialized nations moved away from the gold standard, the value
of money is determined by the amount of currency that is in circulation. When
the Federal Reserve decides to put more money into circulation at a rate higher
than the economy's growth rate, the value of money can fall because of the
changing public perception of the value of the underlying currency. As a
result, this devaluation will force prices to rise due to the fact that each
unit of currency is now worth less.
***
Nations
who were on the Gold Standard during the 19th century until 1914 experienced
little or no inflationary trends.
***
In
1971 the U.S. decoupled the value of the dollar from gold altogether. Now a
U.S. dollar is only worth 12 cents of what it was worth in 1950.
***
Hyperinflation
is a situation where the price increases are so out of control that the concept
of inflation is meaningless.
***
The
post-WWII hyperinflation of Hungary holds the record for the most rapid monthly
inflation increase ever: 41,900,000,000,000,000 percent for July 1946, which
means prices doubled every 13.5 hours.

Alien
Life Form
Everyone
loved Alf, the Alien Life Form that landed on a family's garage and was wittily
brought in as one of their own. Did you know that there was actually a person
inside the Alf suit? Michu Meszaros was the man who played Alf on full body
shots (though the voice was Paul Fusco). He was only 33 inches tall and before
had worked for Ringling Brother and Barnum and Bailey. Meszaros passed away
earlier this summer. Source: Variety

All ‘data’ info is from
the internet sites and is usually checked with at least one other source, but I
have learned that every site contains mistakes and sadly once the information
is out there, many sites simply copy it and is therefore difficult to verify.
