My Rambling Thoughts
I had a very quiet NYE at home watching
Netflix. Very enjoyable.
Awoke this first day of 2016 to clouds, wind,
and very cool temps. Still a nice day of parades and football.
Not sure what 2016 holds in store, but I am
certainly ready for the adventure.

2 jokes for the day
It's Time To Go To School -
Early one morning, a mother went in
to wake up her son.
“Wake up, son.“
“But why, Mom? I don’t want to go.”
“Give me two reasons why you don’t
want to go.”
“Well, the kids hate me for one, and
the teachers hate me also!”
“Oh, that’s no reason not to go to
school. Come on now and get ready.”
“Give me two reasons why I should go
to school.”
“Well, for one, you’re 52 years old.
And for another, you’re the PRINCIPAL!"

Turn Up Or Down The Air Conditioner?
-
A customer was continually bothering
the waiter in a restaurant, at first he’d asked that the air conditioning be
turned up because he was too hot, then he asked it be turned down because he
was too cold, and so on for about half an hour.
Surprisingly, the waiter was very
patient, he walked back and forth and never once got angry. So finally, a
second customer asked him why he didn’t throw out the pest.
“Oh, that man I don’t care.” said
the waiter with a smile. “We don’t even have an air conditioner.”

Yep, It Really Happened
WSOC-TV (Charlotte, N.C.) According to the
flabbergasted sheriff of rural Chesterfield County, South Carolina, "This
has completely changed our definition of (what constitutes) an 'ass-load' of
guns." Brent Nicholson, 51, had been storing more than 7,000 firearms
(most of them likely stolen) in his home and a storage building on his
property. Every room of the house was stacked with weapons, and it took four
tractor-trailer trips to haul everything away, with help of 100 law-enforcement
officers. Nicholson also had 500 chainsaws, at least 250 taxidermied deer, elk,
and alligator heads, and more. No motive was obvious to deputies. (Nicholson
would still be living in the shadows today if he hadn't run that stop sign on
Oct. 21 with bogus license plates on his truck.)

Somewhat Useless Information
About 1 million people gather in New
York City's Times Square to watch the ball drop. The Times Square New Year's
Eve ball drop came about because of a ban on fireworks. The first ball in 1907
was 700 pounds and was lit with 100 25-watt lights. Today, it is covered in
2,688 crystals, is lit by 32,000 LED lights, weighs 11,875 pounds and is 12
feet in diameter.
The first New Year's celebration dates back 4,000 years. Julius Caesar, the
emperor of Rome, was the first to declare Jan. 1 a national holiday. He named
the month after Janus, the Roman god of doors and gates.
Auld Lang Syne is the song traditionally sung at the end of New Year's parties.
Poet Robert Burns wrote it in 1788.Though most people do not know the words to
Auld Lang Syne, the overall message is that people have to remember their loved
ones, dead or alive, and keep them close in their hearts.
Make sure to be surrounded by family or loved ones on New Year's Eve. The first
person you come across in the new year could set the tone for the next 12
months.
Tradition says that the more leafy greens a person eats, the more prosperity he
or she will experience (what an incentive for staying healthy!). Tradition also
says that legumes bring prosperity because beans and peas look like coins.
Many people ring in New Year's by popping open a bottle of champagne. Americans
drink close to 360 million glasses of sparkling wine during this time. The bubbly
stuff dates back to the 17th century, when the cork was invented.

All ‘data’ info is from the internet sites and is
usually checked with at least one other source, but I have learned that every
site contains mistakes and sadly once the information is out there, many sites
simply copy it and is therefore difficult to verify. Also for events occurring
before the Gregorian calendar was adopted [1582] the dates may not be totally
accurate.
