My Rambling Thoughts
Day started out nice, so I headed out early to do some running around. Wind picked up and is bringing in a storm—rain or snow? Got my stuff done and now ready to do some reading on Cuba for our discussion tomorrow night.
Politics has become a business. Elected officials spend way too much time raising money, instead of spending that time to help their constituents. And now some in Congress want a raise…the $176,000 just isn’t enough…and at the same time many of their constituents are working for minimum wage make around $8/hr. with no leave, no benefits, and many at less than a full time job. I spent my career in a poverty region. Someone making as much of Congress cannot understand how those in poverty have to live. On the other side, no one living in poverty can even dream of running for office. I am very tired of the Conservative rhetoric about cutting taxes for the wealthy, complaining about the federal programs that help the impoverished and making Social Security sound like a handout.
The new movie Papa, about Ernest Hemingway, is being released. Turns out I was I Havana when the movie was being filmed at his estate there. This was during my first trip, and while it was on the itinerary, we couldn’t get in. But I did wander the house and gardens on my second trip. Can’t wait to see the movie.

Brain Teasers
(answers at the end of post)
Venus
Science brain teasers require understanding of the physical or biological world and the laws that govern it.
You awake inside a small transparent capsule sitting on the surface of Venus. From a small speaker you hear a voice that says, "We will leave you here either for a day or a year. If you choose to stay a day, we will give you $1 million. If you choose to stay a year, we will give you $2 million. Either way, you will have sufficient food and water. We will make sure the temperature is a constant 70 degrees Fahrenheit. We will also supply cable TV."

What is your choice? (Don't let money decide your answer).

2 jokes for the day
I patiently waiting at the customer service desk for my turn. I had come back to return a pair of jeans that were too tight.

"Is something wrong with them?" the teenage clerk asked me.

"Yes," I replied. "They hurt my feelings."

The clerk had no response for me.

A defendant isn’t happy with how things are going in court, so he gives the judge a hard time.

Judge: “Where do you work?”

Defendant: “Here and there.”

Judge: “What do you do for a living?”

Defendant: “This and that.”

Judge: “Take him away.”

Defendant: “Wait! When will I get out?”

Judge: “Sooner or later.”

Somewhat Useless Information
Depending on what movie you're watching, Yoda has a different number of toes. In The Phantom Menace, Yoda has three toes. But in The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi and Revenge of the Sith, he has four.
The opening crawl for the original movie (which was cribbed from the Flash Gordon serials that also inspired the film) was done practically, by carefully placing 2-foot-wide die cut yellow letters over a 6-foot-long black paper background with a camera making a slow pass over them to mimic the crawl. In total, it took three hours to shoot.

The Star Wars expanded universe encompasses all of the officially licensed, fictional material of the Star Wars saga, outside of the seven feature films, The Clone Wars film and series, and Rebels series produced by Lucasfilm. The expanded universe includes books, comic books, video games, toys, television films and other assorted media.
In 2014, following the acquisition of Lucasfilm by The Walt Disney Company in November 2012, it was announced that all previously released expanded universe content would be declared non-canon and rebranded as Star Wars Legends.

Choose to stay one year and win $2 million. Venus takes 243 Earth days to rotate on its axis, but it takes 225 Earth days to go around the sun. On Venus a day is longer than a year.

Disclaimer: All opinions are mine…feel free to agree or disagree.
All ‘data’ info is from the internet sites and is usually checked with at least one other source, but I have learned that every site contains mistakes and sadly once the information is out there, many sites simply copy it and is therefore difficult to verify. Also for events occurring before the Gregorian calendar was adopted [1582] the dates may not be totally accurate.
