Today’s Thoughts
One of the
coldest nights this fall. It is not warming up much either. It was 24° at 7am
and at noon a blistering 34°. I was
either reminded or learned that Tennyson’s Charge of the Light Brigade was
written during the Crimean War in 1854 about a battle in Ukraine. As I am getting
into the spirit of the season, I hope that the world will embrace the message
of peace and love for the world. Kwanza is
coming. It was started in 1966 and gained popularity in the 1980’s. There are
7 principles of Kwanza, one for each day of the celebration: 1. Umoja, Unity in Swahili, to strive
for and maintain unity in family, community, nation and race. 2. Kujichagulia, is to be defining, naming,
creating, and speaking for oneself. 3. Ujima, is to build and maintain our
community together and make our brother’s and sister’s problems and to solve
them together. 4. Ujamaa, to build and maintain our
own stores, shops, and other businesses and to profit from them. 5. Nia, purpose, to make our collective
vocation the building and developing of our community to restore our people
to their traditional greatness. 6. Kuumba, creativity, to do always as
much as we can, in the way we can, in order to leave our community more
beautiful and beneficial than we inherited it. 7. Imani, faith, to believe with all
our hear in our people, our parents, our teachers, our leaders, and the
righteousness and victory of our struggle. |
