Today’s Thoughts

Welcoming 2024. Today is cloudy.

One of my colleagues from Tuba is part of our retirement lunch group. She lives in Williams. Her son, also a friend, lives in California. She had another fall in early November and her son insisted she stay with him and his family to recover. She is still there and well healed. She is 76 and doesn’t want to waste money on knee replacement. Her son is worried about another fall. They are ‘discussing’ where she will live. She never answers her cell phone. Her son messaged me this morning and caught me up. I called the son’s home, and she was there. We had a nice conversation. Personally, I think she should stay in CA as she really can’t risk another fall. She has had many falls that I know about while she was living in Williams. Only time will tell her destination.

My resolution for this new year is to not to read or listen to American politics until there is a final official ballot. I’m fed up with our current Presidential and Congressional politics. I am only ONE vote and can’t use it until November.

 Enjoy

Important inventions…

1964: Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

Widespread use of remotely piloted aircraft begins during the Vietnam War with deployment of 1000 AQM-34 Ryan Firebees. The first model of these 29-foot-long planes was developed in just 90 days in 1962. AQM-34s go on to fly more than 34,000 surveillance missions. Their success leads to the eventual development of the UAVs widely used today.

Honorable Invention: Music Synthesizer

States with similar size to countries around the world.

California – Paraguay
California, America’s third-largest state, boasts a total area of 163,696 square miles — slightly larger than the South American nation of Paraguay, which covers 157,048 square miles. California also has far more residents than Paraguay: There are around 38.9 million Californians compared to just 7.6 million Paraguayans. California’s most populous cities are Los Angeles (3.8 million people) and San Diego (1.4 million), and its capital of Sacramento is home to around 528,000 people. Paraguay’s capital and largest city is Asunción, home to an estimated 525,000 inhabitants (2.2 million in the entire metro region).
