Today’s Thoughts

I’m slowly getting used to cold mornings. I’m sure glad I set the furnace to come on at 5:30am.

Our local mall opens at 10am. It used to open at 9am before the pandemic, but the 10am opening is our new reality. I headed over there this morning at 10:15. It’s only about a mile away. I wanted to go to the two anchor stores, Dillards and JCPenny. I parked near JCPenny only to find the doors locked. I went to the middle of the Mall and while the small stores were open, Dillards was still closed. I came home with no idea why they were closed. Neither had a sign of a late opening.

Broncos beat the Browns 29-12; Rams beat the Cards 37-14.

60 Minutes did a piece on the country of Georgia and its wine production. It is believed that Georgia produced the world’s first wine. The Soviet era destroyed the wine making industry there. Small family gardens could still grow grapes for home use…which kept the ancient varieties of grapes from dying out. Today there are 500 grape varieties being grown at huge vineyards through out wine country in Georgia. There are several unique characteristics of the wine: many are ancient varieties; the wine is made in clay pots and buried underground during the fermentation stage and the wine is an amber color when finished. It is now being exported to many countries including the US.

I have been sending Thanksgiving cards for many years through the internet. I got a note today that one of my mother’s good friends passed away at 98 in July. They were neighbors of our home in Wheat Ridge. Her husband passed away in his early 40’s and she moved, with the 3 kids to Red Feather Lake, CO. I drove my mom up there many times when I was visiting from AZ. She had magnificent handwriting and a great sense of humor. Margaret had a great life and will be missed by many.

Enjoy
