Today’s Reflection:

Another nice blue-sky day here. No complaints.

The AZ midterms are not making national news. That’s good. I am very tired of the ads that have filled local stations and national media talking about the midterms…like they know how people will vote. I’m bored with all this.

I am expecting several deliveries today. Bought groceries and other things from Walmart and have an Amazon Haul delivery today or tomorrow.

I re-upped my AARP membership for 3 years. I just got my new card. Nice.

The news on the Cornell Rape case is very disheartening. Everyone deserves their day in court. I am saddened as I hear how rape cases are handled around this country.

Chattooga River, North Carolina, United States

Few rivers combine wild scenery and whitewater quite like the Chattooga. Rising in the mountains near Cashiers, North Carolina, it winds through Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina in the United States, dropping nearly half a mile in elevation along its journey. With no dams upstream, its water levels can change quickly after rainfall, adding excitement for rafters and kayakers

Pluto is smaller than the United States.

If you were to walk around the equator of Pluto, it would be the same distance as walking from London to Denver (well, plus or minus an extra 56 miles).

Today’s Reflection:

The sky is finally blue again. A nice warm day.

The ‘water year’ is measured from Oct. 1 to Sept. 30. This year our little town got 22.01” of moisture. The annual average is 20.52”. That’s nice to see. The weather guy says the weekend will also be warm and dry.

I had a good lunch with Andy and Faith today at Wildflower. Very good conversation and great food. They are going to go to the hacienda with me sometime after I get my passport. All good.

Cool to know:

The world’s oldest wooden wheel has been around for more than 5,000 years

Talk about one old tourist attraction! This wheel was found in 2002, approximately 12 miles south of Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, and is now housed in the city’s museum. Radiocarbon dating was used to determine the wheel’s age, which is somewhere between 5,100 and 5,350 years old.

What happens when a man once left out of the picture becomes part of its most important frame? Look to London"s Parliament Square, where Nelson Mandela stands among monuments to political giants. Sculpted by Ian Walters and unveiled in 2007, the bronze statue has a remarkable connection to Mandela"s history. In 1962, Mandela and Oliver Tambo visited Parliament Square and noticed that no Black person was represented among its monuments. Decades later, Mandela took his place there.

Interesting Space Facts:

Due to the Sun and Moon’s gravitational pull, we have tides.

This is because the Moon’s tidal force causes the Earth – and the water on it – to bulge out on the side closest to the Moon.

These bulges are what cause the world’s high tides.

Today’s Reflection:

Another day of rain. It’s a light rain so there are no complaints.

When my mother passed I inherited her wedding ring. The history of the diamond is that my paternal grandmother got it when she married my paternal grandfather in the early 1910’s. He passed on Christmas Eve when my brother was only 5. My father gave my mother the diamond when they got engaged in 1939. I had the diamond reset in white gold with turquoise and the gold from my mother’s ring. I’ve been wearing it ever since. I have lost weight and the ring was loose. I used electrical tape to keep it on my finger. I found some silicone ring sizers on Amazon. They arrived yesterday and the one I’m using working great…the ring no long rolls around on my finger. Very happy camper. I should have done this months ago.

I am looking forward to a great October.

Male bearded reedling, Norfolk, England

Balanced on a slender stalk in Norfolk, England, the male bearded reedling in today's image stands out with a pale blue-grey head, a bright orange bill and the black facial markings that give the species its name. Despite its striking appearance, this small bird spends much of its life hidden among the dense wetland vegetation of marshes, lakeshores and reed beds.

Nobody knows how the Earth got its name; all we know is that it is derived from an amalgamation of both the Old English and Old Germanic words for “ground”.
