Thoughts for the day

Finally, the shutdown has ended.

I am happy that the shutdown has ended. I am happy that those Federal employees who have been off and are going to get paid and back to work. This never was the plan of our founding fathers. I must wonder how many wealthy working people would gladly show up for work, knowing that they may or not get paid for their work and with no idea how many days they would have to do that.

Here is another “don’t plan, just end the program and forget the consequences” of this administration. Trump has ended the US penny that has been around since 1792. The last penny was made yesterday. It cost 3.69 ¢ to make one penny. States have laws about rounding up or rounding down when there is no penny. There was no planning for this move. If an item is 31¢, does the seller round up or down so it is either 30¢ or 35¢. Where are the federal guidelines? There are none. Interestingly, the nickel costs 13¢ to make. Is the next coin we lose?

Animals From Native American Legends And What They Symbolize

Nature's Guidance in a Modern World

All these animal stories hold meaning for today's world. Even as life changes and technology grow, lessons about respect, teamwork, careful planning, and adapting to change still guide Native communities.

Honoring animals and their stories helps preserve cultural traditions, supports community strength, and teaches future generations to live in harmony with the earth and each other.

Animal wisdom continues to inspire and unite, no matter the age.

The Tongue Has Separate Zones for Different Tastes

Remember that diagram in school showing taste bud “zones” for sweet, salty, sour, and bitter? Turns out, that’s completely wrong. Every part of the tongue can detect all tastes—it’s just that some areas are slightly more sensitive than others. Yet, for years, we had to memorize a map of taste zones that was nothing more than outdated pseudoscience. Who knew our tongues had been misrepresented all this time?

Random Thoughts

Every word in every language started out as gibberish until one person convinced enough people that what they said was a real word.

There are half a million different occupations in the world, yet we pick our careers based on studying 10–15 subjects by age 18–21.

You may have once made a decision that saved your life without knowing it.

In every Olympic event, they should have an average person compete so we can have a point of reference and appreciate the athletes more.

Thoughts for the day

Day 43 of the current shutdown. Hopefully the last day of the shutdown

My phlebotomy was successful yesterday. It took almost an hour, as my blood did not want to leave my body through my port. They had to use 3 different vacuum bottles to get out the blood. I’m not complaining, just a little frustrated.

What happened with the shutdown? It looks like the Dems caved on their demand on healthcare extensions. I’m not cheering or crying, I’m just waiting for this mess to play itself out. Everyday Americans continue to suffer from the cost of healthcare, gas, groceries… Fix it sooner than later.

Today is the day AZ Rep Grijalva is sworn in after her October win to fill her father’s seat in Congress. About time. Hopefully, they vote on ending the shutdown after she is sworn in.

Beaver

Stories celebrate beavers for their building skills and hard work. By watching beavers build dams and lodges, tribes learned about planning, teamwork, and taking care of the land.

Beavers show that creating strong homes and communities takes effort and cooperation. In art and stories, the beaver reminds people of the rewards of working together and improving things for the next generation.

Chameleons Change Color to Blend in with Their Surroundings

We all thought chameleons were nature’s ultimate camouflage artists, shifting colors to match whatever they touched. But that’s not how it works! Chameleons change color mostly due to mood, temperature, or communication, not as a disguise. Some can turn vibrant shades of red, yellow, or even blue—not exactly great camouflage in a green jungle. Yet, this fun but misleading “fact” was drilled into us like a basic law of nature.

Random Thoughts

You see people every single day that you’ll never see again.

It’s likely that over 99% of the trees that you look at will still be here when you’re dead.

We go to work by car each day, taking the same route, but almost never encounter the same cars along the way.

Thoughts for the day

Day 42 of the current shutdown. And there may be end coming this week.

A nice fall day. The prescribed burns continue, but smoke today is less than it has been.

I hope everyone had a good Federal holiday to honor our vets.

Yesterday I got a bill from the local hospital for the EKG I had before my colonoscopy last month. The bill said I owed $1350 of the $4800 bill. This morning I called the billing department at the hospital. They said both Medicare and Blue Cross had paid and that is what I owed and suggested I call BC for the reason. I called BC and they had no record of the procedure. The lady said she could place a courtesy call to the hospital to figure it out. According to her the hospital never sent the bill to either Medicare or BC and the hospital apologized for this oversight. I won’t know more for about 90 days but I’m sure I don’t know the hospital money.

Then there was my cable box problem. After my blood treatment I took my box to the cable company office. I waited about 15 minutes as he worked with another customer. Then he took my broken box, scanned in the information, got me a new box and scanned the information and handed me the box. He never called me by name. I got home and the new box worked fine. Then I went up to my office and turned on the TV. Now that cable box didn’t work. I called again and about 20 minutes later the box was working. Then this morning I got an email that I was charged $15 for the new box. I called and got a terrible young lady who said everything was right. She then said I wasn’t charged for the second box, but I pulled up my bill and I was charged. I listened to her for about 15 minutes, told her she wasn’t helping and asked to speak to her supervisor. She said she didn’t want to waste my time because the supervisor would tell me the same thing. Then she offered me a package with less channels, cell phone plan, and internet plan. I told her she was no help, that she shouldn’t change anything, and I hung up. I’ll see what my bill says.

Now it is time for my phlebotomy. Maybe when they take out all that blood they can also take out some of the frustration.

Fox

The fox is admired for its cleverness and ability to adapt quickly. Fox stories remind people to use their intelligence for good reasons, blending in when needed or taking quick action.

They also warn that honesty must balance trickery—too much slyness might create mistrust.

Fox wisdom helps people stay alert and creative without losing the trust or support of their community.

Boomers Were Forced to Memorize These Facts—And They’re All Useless Now…

Einstein Failed Math

Teachers loved using this “fact” as proof that even geniuses can struggle in school. But Einstein himself said it wasn’t true—he was actually excellent at math. The myth likely started because of a misunderstanding about how German grading worked. It’s ironic that a fact meant to inspire struggling students turned out to be completely false.

Random Thoughts

I owed blockbuster late fees. My game plan of waiting them out worked, though.

A different version of you exists in the minds of everyone who knows you.

Someone out there vividly remembers something you said that you have completely forgotten.

I wonder if there are any time combinations on the clock that I’ve never seen.
