My Rambling Thoughts
So much going on…our little mountain town is having its first ‘winter storm’ Lots of wind, rain, then flurries, then more rain. Weather guy says we’ll get about an inch by tomorrow. Headed out early to get my toenails cut as I had one ingrown on my bit toe. After working on it, she says, in her broken English, next time come in when it starts hurting and I will fix…yes. Must say I will follow her advice.

Last night I was on FB when I started seeing lots of posts from the ND water protectors. Watching the live video was frightening. It was in the low 20’s and uniformed police were spraying the protectors with fire hoses, shooting off concussion bombs and tear gas, and shooting rubber bullets. The protectors were trapped on a bridge. There was no reason for this kind of action. I am usually on the side of the police, but this was way over the bounds. Then I see a live broadcast from an ABC affiliate that is interviewing the police chief of the local town. He says, while we are all watching the live feed, that the police are only trying to put out the fires started by the protesters. This is an outright lie. Lots of video today on FB showing the wounds from the rubber bullets. In the first part of this paragraph I called them ‘protectors’ and not protesters. That is what they are. More good news as NPR, CNN, MSNBS have now all had stories today. Most stories are showing both sides.  Now is the time for President Obama to send in the National Guard to stop this violence. He has already stopped the pipeline until further study can be done. It has taken me several months to get fully on the side of the protectors, who are not using violence. In a move that I didn’t expect, I called the White House line to complain about the treatment. I was told that the Situation Room, which they transferred me to, was aware. The guy who said he was the situation room said they were monitoring the situation and that were getting ‘thousands’ of calls about it. Hmmm.

My goodness, President-elect Trump is moving his fingers to demand an apology from the cast of Hamilton for what they said to his VP-elect. First, the VP said he wasn’t upset by the cast speech. Second, Trump should be busy enough to let this go and let the VP fight his own battles, if he has one. I see Trump’s tweets as very disrespectful to Pence. I’m not going to comment on rumors about Trump’s appointments. I will wait and see who he nominates. After watching the #NODAPL events, I really don’t trust the press to tell us what they see and know.

For those wondering, I was working in my 9th grade shop class when the first announcement came. Less than an hour later I was in Algebra when the final announcement came and we were sent home to be with family. It was a day in 1963 that I will always remember.

2 jokes for the day
Mr. and Mrs. Thorne had just reached the airport in the nick of time to catch the plane for their two-week's vacation in Majorca. "I wish we'd brought the piano with us," said Mr. Thorne.

"What on earth for?" asked his wife.

"I've left the tickets on it."

After years of working for others and being passed over for promotions, John and his wife, Mary, decided to go into business together. After examining the classifieds, they bought a small candy stand, paying thirty cents for each box of candy and then selling it for thirty cents.

At the end of the day they were astonished to find that they had sold every box of candy – yet had exactly as much money as when they started.

“You see?” John snarled at his wife. “I told you we should have bought a larger stand!”

All ‘data’ info is from the internet sites and is usually checked with at least one other source, but I have learned that every site contains mistakes and sadly once the information is out there, many sites simply copy it and is therefore difficult to verify. Also for events occurring before the Gregorian calendar was adopted [1582] the dates may not be totally accurate.
