My Rambling Thoughts
Had
a great lunch with our retirement group yesterday…lasted much longer than
expected.
As
I write this it is Veteran’s Day. For me, that means flag flying, no shopping
or supporting business that are open…it is a day to honor our Vets…not a day to
have a sale. I do support those businesses that are giving away free stuff to
Vets. While I was working, this was a big holiday and most years I did
something for the Vets on the Friday before Veteran’s Day. In my opinion the
best event we did was having the children bring in pictures of their family
members that had served. The kids made frames for the pictures…sometimes we had
to make a copy of the picture on the Xerox machine so that the original wouldn’t
be damaged. Then we had a large room that the staff decorated in red white and
blue and all the pictures were hung on wires throughout the room. We had about
300 pictures mounted and labeled with name, rank and the child who was related.
The room was open for students, staff, Vets, and families to visit. We had so
many that we kept it open on the Tuesday after Veteran’s Day for all to see. Vets were invited to speak to classes…not an
easy task…and for speaking they got a free lunch at the cafeteria. At a general
assembly we had staff play patriotic music and honored the Vets. Good day for
sure.
I
consider myself a pretty happy person, who can always find something positive
in any situation. By talking about the good, the bad can’t take over. For two
days now I try to find something positive about the election…all I can say is
that I thought it would be over by now. I can live with the results and try to
convince myself it will work out…then I turned on the TV had heard about Trump’s
overnight tweet about the protesters. The next few months, if not years, are
going to be a very bumpy ride for all Americans. My International travel during
the Obama years has been very positive, especially in African countries, I am
not so sure about future travel. I certainly hope that my upcoming Asian trip
goes without a hitch caused by some Trump tweet. I think I’ll be OK, since the
only Asia he seems to know about is China.

Hyphen Word-Hunt 2
Language brain teasers are those that involve
the English language. You need to think about and manipulate words and letters.
**

interesting to browse, and some word pairs can even be correctly written in
three different ways - e.g. playgroup, play group, or play-group.
This teaser invites you find a commonly hyphenated word-pair inside a pair of
words.
e.g. undisCLOSEd - cUPbearer gives us CLOSE-UP

“Has your address changed?” she asked.
“No,” I answered.

Happy Holidays ----------------*
A
fun-loving couple is very happy after a judge allowed them to change their
legal names so that they can to bring cheer to others. Jeff and Mary Brookstein
of Omaha, Nebraska, used to dress up as Santa and Mrs. Claus to cheer people up
around Christmas time. However, they wanted to bring joy to people all year
round. Jeff said that he came home one day, and asked his wife whether it was a
good idea to change his name to Santa Claus. Mary replied that she had also
thought about changing her name to Merry Christmas. The couple filed papers to
have their names changed, and a judge approved their request to change their
names to Santa and Merry Christmas Claus. They will be working together in malls
and at other events during the Christmas season.

‘data’ info is from the internet sites and is usually checked with at least one
other source, but I have learned that every site contains mistakes and sadly once
the information is out there, many sites simply copy it and is therefore
difficult to verify. Also for events occurring before the Gregorian calendar
was adopted [1582] the dates may not be totally accurate.
