My
Rambling Thoughts
I chose not to participate in Black Friday as I am much too old to
deal with crowds of frenzied people. I did make a run to Home Depot early this
afternoon to get my Christmas poinsettias. I’ve been buying 2 small ones every
year since I moved to Flagstaff. Today the small ones were $2.98 but big ones
were on sale for $4 each. Don’t understand but other poinsettias in the same
size pot as the $4 ones were $12.98. Anyway my house now has two beautiful
plants.
Got some sad news this morning. A colleague that I worked with for
years passed away after a 2 year battle with cancer. He worked out of DC and
Albuquerque and was always a great help with any problems. He had retired about
4 years ago and suddenly he they found some weird kind of blood cancer. He was
in remission until about 2 weeks ago, when he went from being home then
suddenly in ICU. Sad, but he is no longer suffering.
Then I get a call from my tech support. They have found a worm in one
of my email addressed that has infected
my computer. I trust these guys, so I knew it wasn’t a scam. Sam got on my
computer and found the damn worm and got rid of it. ‘Koobface’ is on google and
steals the passwords of just about everything. Scary, but gone now and I have a
lifetime guarantee to check for this and similar worms. While I use the
computer to increase my knowledge, I am so out of touch with how these things
happen. How did I get it? Well it seems that just going onto the internet the
worm steals your IP address and then later, starts its mischief and theft.

…Amazing
Facts…
It took 200,000 years for humans to reach 3
billion in number. It took 40 years for the next 3 billion.
The first guy to win Who Wants To Be A
Millionaire (USA) used none of his lifelines until the final question, where he
called his dad. During the call, he told his dad he didn't need any help on the
final question, but he just wanted to let him know that he was about to win
$1,000,000.

Auction
Selling at an auction was halted when the
auctioneer announced, “Someone in the room has lost his wallet containing
$2,000. He is offering a reward of $500.00 for its immediate return.” After a
moment of silence, there was a call from the back of the room, “$550.00”

Funeral Flowers
A new business was opening, and one of the
owner’s friends sent flowers for the occasion. But when the owner read the card
with the flowers, it said “Rest in Peace”.
The owner was little upset and called the
florist to complain. After he had told the florist about the obvious mistake,
the florist said, “Sir, I’m really sorry for the mistake, but rather than
getting angry, you should imagine this: Somewhere there is a funeral taking
place today, and they have flowers with a note saying, “Congratulations on your
new location.”

Yep,
It Really Happened
JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. - Move over Luke Skywalker, Darth
Vader has a new nemesis -- salad dressing. Police in Florida said the Force was
not with a Darth Vader wannabe who was pelted with a jar of salad dressing
during an alleged robbery attempt. Investigators said a man dressed as the Star
Wars villain and armed with a silver handgun entered the 8 Til Late convenience
store in Jacksonville Beach about 5:30 p.m. Sunday and demanded cash from the
store clerk. Police said the clerk answered the Sith Lord's request by
struggling with him and throwing a jar of blue cheese salad dressing, which
struck the alleged robber in the helmet. The suspect fled, but witnesses
outside the store got a quick glimpse of his face when he took off the helmet
before driving away. The vehicle was located after an investigation and its
owner, Jacob Jeremy Mercer, 32, of Tonawanda, N.Y., was located at a residence
and arrested. Mercer, who was bleeding from the bridge of his nose, was
identified by a witness as the man in the Darth Vader costume. Police said Mercer
had several handguns and ammunition in a backpack. Mercer was charged with
armed robbery and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Somewhat
Useless Information
The
Pilgrim's thanksgiving feast in 1621 occurred sometime between September 21 and
November 1. It lasted three days and included 50 surviving pilgrims and
approximately 90 Wampanoag Indians, including Chief Massasoit. Their menu
differed from modern Thanksgiving dinners and included berries, shellfish,
boiled pumpkin, and deer.
Now a Thanksgiving dinner staple, cranberries were actually used by Native
Americans to treat arrow wounds and to dye clothes.
***
The
famous 'Pilgrim and Indian' story featured in modern Thanksgiving narratives
was not initially part of early Thanksgiving stories, largely due to tensions
between Indians and colonists.
Native Americans 'Unthanksgiving Day' commemorates the struggle for Native
American rights. Held every year on the island of Alcatraz since 1975,
'Unthanksgiving Day' commemorates the survival of Native Americans following
the arrival and settlement of Europeans in the Americas.

once the information is out there, many sites simply copy it and is therefore
difficult to verify. Also for events occurring before the Gregorian calendar
