My Rambling Thoughts
My
computer mail system messed up, making it difficult to do much. Called the tech
guys and they worked on it for 4-1/2 hours Friday but couldn’t fix it. Have to
wait until Tuesday for the senior techs to return from a long long weekend. Oh
well.
Fri:
Big monsoon storm this morning…small rivers of water running down the streets
of our little mountain town.
Getting
more work done around the house to get ready for winter. Not the most exciting
tasks but well worth the work.
Got
a call from Ellie yesterday about our Singapore trip. Seems that the cruise
line won’t release our air schedule until about a month before our trip. No big
deal for me, but then she says that Tumlare, our scheduler, can’t guarantee our
seating assignments on the plane. That is a big deal when I checked and found
out the non-stop flight from Denver to Singapore is 18 hours+ a few minutes. Didn’t realize that when I signed up. I
thought the 12+ hours to Taiwan was a big deal. So all of us are voting, as it
will cost an extra $150 to do our own flight…well worth it, since I can’t image
18+ hours in a middle seat. Thank goodness it is a long trip—about 20
days—before we do the flight home.
Sat:
No rain but some clouds that could be rain…later. Headed out to Art in the Park
downtown. Very nice indeed. I ran into two artist friends and a former teacher
I haven’t seen for years. Spent about 3 hours catching up with them. One has
been traveling the world with his magnificent art. I had bought a painting from
him when he first took off for $20. Now his works sell for $5000+ and a
watercolor the size of mine is $350. Great to hear that he also teaches
workshops in schools to get young artists started. He is also the Cheii
(Grandfather) for a group of 10 young artists who go to shows as a group and he
mentors them. The other story is not as positive. This guy has been a sculptor
since the early 80’s and his works are really nice. Sadly, about 5 years ago he
got Parkinson’s. He is still doing art, has a very positive attitude, still
does some art, but his arms are not well controlled. His wife, a former teacher
I supervised, was forced to leave Tuba and spent 3 years teaching at Tonalea—her
husband’s home community. Then she retired and is loving it.

Beautiful day. Did some more cleaning and decided to tackle the computer issue
again.

Facebook Photo Lands Florida Man in Jail --*
A Florida man was arrested after using his own wanted poster as his Facebook
profile picture. Stuart police tweeted a screen capture of Mack Yearwoodhe's
Facebook picture featuring his 'Wanted of the Week' poster after he was
arrested on Aug. 30. According to the Palm Beach Post, Stuart police used the
photo to identify Yearwoodhe as a suspect in a reported disturbance on Monday
and was arrested on outstanding warrants. Police located Yearhwoodhe on Tuesday
and a bag of marijuana fell from his pants as he was being apprehended. He was
wanted for violation of probation on two counts of battery and received an
additional charge of possession of cannabis under 20 grams.

Originally,
Q-Tips were called Baby Gays because they were supposed to be for babies. But
quickly it was realized that not just babies loved these things so the brand changed
their name to Q-Tips (the Q standing for Quality). In the 1950s, Q-Tips
partnered with America's top Hollywood makeup artist, Ern Westmore, to create
the "Lesson in Loveliness with Q-Tips " booklet instead of our
preferred title "Q-Tips: Not just for cleaning out your earwax!"
