Thoughts for the day
Again, a nice fall day. A little windy.
Kash P, head of the FBI, has fired another FBI agent. The agent refused
to handcuff and perp-walk former Director Comey. In my opinion, the current
director is acting as if we are living in a Banana Republic. It is not a good
look for our country.
Our retirement group is made of retired people. Jim, one of our members,
was out on his weekly bike ride on a bike trail not far from his house. He came
over a hill and crashed into a pile of broken pavement that was in the middle
of the trail. He broke his leg, dislocated his shoulder, and broke his right
arm. He was taken to the hospital, has had several surgeries, and will be at a
rehab center until Mid-Oct. He will get out of his wheelchair just after
Christmas. I talked to Jan, his wife. He is doing well and is still in good spirits.
Everyone thought the trail was city owned. The city says may not be their
problem. Jim and Jan have a lawyer to help them through the bureaucracy ahead. Jan
told me, their main concern, is that the broken pavement get cleaned up…which
after over a week, is still blocking the trail.

Destinations That Were Once No-Go Zones
The
Maldives
The
Maldives welcomed its first tourists in 1972. Aware that most of its islands
were tiny and fearful of too much foreign influx and influence, the government
implemented a ‘one resort, one island’ policy in 1978. These resorts were
largely built on uninhabited islands, and travel to the more populous
islands like Hithadhoo or Fuvahmulah was very challenging and very
unusual.
It's only since 2009 that locals on inhabited islands have been allowed to
build guesthouses, where tourists can stay among the local population. Intrepid
travelers now have the opportunity to visit islands that were previously out of
bounds and experience more authentic island life in the Maldives.
These islands still take some getting to, often on board one of the wooden
cargo ships called 'vedis' that sail down from the capital city Male carrying
supplies and passengers.

Turning Major Anniversaries in 2025
1825 Erie Canal, 200 Years
On October 26, 1825, New York opened the Erie
Canal, a 363-mile waterway linking Buffalo to the Hudson River at Albany.
Original prism widths averaged about 40 feet, with locks lifting boats over the
Mohawk Valley. The “wedding of the waters” helped turn New York City into the
nation’s busiest port by the 1830s. Today, towpaths are bike trails with
mileage posts. Use lights at dusk and yield to pedestrians on narrow sections.
Syracuse’s old weigh lock building explains canal tolls and boat sizes.
Random Thoughts…
I would rather try to carry 10 plastic grocery bags in each hand than
take 2 trips to bring my groceries in.
I once stole a marble from the museum gift shop just so I could say I stole it
from a museum.
Pizza is a circle cut into triangle put into square.
Now that I think about it, a push-pop is nothing more than crappy ice cream in a toilet paper roll.
