My Rambling Thoughts
Every adventure I take seems to have certain simple events stamped in my mind that I will never forget. On this Cuban adventure we visited an after-school program with neighborhood children between 8 and 15. They practiced 3-4 hours every day on gymnastic type skills with the hope of being selected for the Cuban National Circus when they graduated from secondary school. We saw 5 youth perform and they were really good. The moment came when they were introduced. The last boy was a 13 year old who was introduced and the coach said he and his family were emigrating to the US. This would have normally drawn a round of applause from the American audience, but just as the coach was finishing his intro, the boy walked over, hugged his coach, and buried his face in his coach’s stomach. The room was silent. For me I suddenly had a vision of EliΓ‘n GonzΓ‘lez, the little Cuban boy who was dragged from his house in Florida to return to Cuba by court order some 15 years ago. The look on that young athlete’s face will stay with me. Hopefully he will find a good life in the US.   People to People tours are so emotional. Thanks Focus Travel for the experience.
Early in our trip in Cuba’s third largest city of Camaguey, we did a bici-taxi tour. See Picture of the day below
Happy camper here…the HOA and I have never been friends. They have stupid rules and want us to look like cookie-cutters…nothing in the front of the house, curtains on every window, parking permits that aren’t needed as there is always empty parking, etc. When I moved in about 2 feet from my deck was the tallest Ponderosa Pine in the neighborhood. It is beautiful. However it is very old and has lots of dead branches, some as big as 5”. I have worried, a little, about them braking off during a storm. Well after 8 years, the HOA sent in some tree trimmers today to cut branches on all trees that were hanging over the roof. I saw the guys before they started climbing my tree and asked if they could do something about the dead braches. The guy said their contract was only to cut branches that were over the roof. I went back inside. When they got to my tree, they cut all the dead branches off, none of which were over the roof, plus the several that did go over the roof. For the first time since I moved in I have bright afternoon sunlight in the master bedroom, the downstairs guest bedroom, and the deck. So nice!!!

2 jokes for the day
Kid Jokes
Little Amy confided to her uncle, “When I grow up I’m going to marry the boy next door.”

“Why is that?”

“Cause I’m not allowed to cross the road.”
Business Jokes
Regarding Face book Co-founder Edward Saverin's renouncing his US citizenship to avoid paying taxes.

One thing for which you have to give Obama credit for when he took office, one of the biggest problems was illegal immigrants streaming over our border.

3 1/2 years later he's sure cured that problem. Now many are trying to get out. (To avoid paying taxes)
Yep, It Really Happened
CLERMONT, FL - A Florida woman was arrested after calling a local police station and asking for wings and cigarettes. Forty-five-year-old Liann Gae Watson is accused of calling police and asking them to bring her wings and cigarettes, claiming that she was too drunk to drive and get them herself. When officers arrived, she repeatedly asked them for cigarettes while claiming that the call was a joke, The Orlando Sentinel reports. Police report that she switched back and forth between hysterical laughter and sobbing while being interviewed and was ultimately handcuffed and placed in the patrol car. When she arrived at the Lake County Jail, she reportedly began shouting profanities, banging her head against a partition and kicking her legs up toward the ceiling. After being warned four times, police restrained her arms and legs to prevent her form harming herself and others.
Somewhat Useless Information
Worldwide, people consume 500 extra calories a day from sugar, which is roughly the amount of calories needed to gain a pound a week.

A 15.2 oz. bottle of Minute Maid 100 percent Apple Juice contains 49 grams of sugar. This is about the same amount of sugar in 10 Oreos. While sugar occurs naturally in fruit, the body processes both types of sugar in the same way. One benefit of eating whole fruit is eating fiber, which is generally lost in the process of making juice.

***
According to brain scans, sugar is as addictive as cocaine.

Two hundred years ago, the average American ate only 2 pounds of sugar a year. In 1970, Americans ate 123 pounds of sugar per year. Today the average American consumes almost 152 pounds of sugar in one year. This is equal to 3 pounds (or 6 cups) of sugar consumed in one week.

All ‘data’ info is from the internet sites and is usually checked with at least one other source, but I have learned that every site contains mistakes and sadly once the information is out there, many sites simply copy it and is therefore difficult to verify. Also for events occurring before the Gregorian calendar was adopted [1582] the dates may not be totally accurate.
