My
Rambling Thoughts
Day started a little frustrating, but all good-er now. I tried and
tried to sign into my blog with almost 2500 posts only to be denied. The provider
of this blog is Google and I have always used an AOL address. Now it won’t take
the AOL address so I can post. The blog is still there, just can’t add any new
posts. So I set up a new one.
Nice Saturday with clouds in the afternoon—a surprise to me cause
it wasn’t in last night’s weather forecast, but appreciated.
Pope Francis is in Cuba. CNN is running coverage. Nice to see some
of the places I visited. Amazingly, there is a big picture of Jesus in
Revolution Square. I’ll be looking for that when I return in November. And the
Pope has asked that the youth be able to make tweets during his visit with no
censorship…that too is a first. And it was pointed out that while the US has
been on his agenda for a while, Cuba was a much more recent add-on. Heard that
he wanted to continue the building of the bridge between the two countries by
flying from Cuba to the US. And for the first time in history, the Spanish
speakers will hear the Pope speak to them in his Native Language—Spanish. Very
cool! We are certainly living in historical times.

Brain
Teasers
(answers at the end of post)
Today
little Frederick and his mother visited a school and a family. While they were
there, they saw a band, checked out the litter, and noticed a sleuth standing
nearby. Later that day, they watched an army and a troop for quite a while, and
noticed they were standing beside a battery. As they were leaving to go home
that day, Frederick and his mother saw a party just near the den and were
indeed very happy.

Gulf in Lake Turkana. This is a beautiful spot to find food in the middle of a
desert that is scarce for protein. Lava rocks and HOT (like being inside a
microwave)… When Ethiopia’s (and China’s) Gibe III dam on the Omo River goes
online the microwave will be all that is left. Search keywords BBC, Geothermal,
Kenya for some insight into how this dam (that will be so damaging to so many)
has become irrelevant in it’s main mission of selling power to Nairobi. Kenya
will favor their own geothermal and solar. I will continue to post Lake Turkana
photos here in the hopes that the people we met will still have a place to live
after this dam goes online. In the hopes that they will not be the next wave of
African refugees.

…Foreigners
Don’t Understand These American Customs…
2. We never include the tax on price tags.
There's nothing more confusing to people who visit here from
somewhere else than the fact that we never list the
tax on anything. Why? Most other countries label their goods and services
with the tax included. So most foreign visitors struggle when purchasing things
here because they never know how much money they'll need when they walk up to
the register.

…Unusual
Fact of the Day…
While the James Bond novels weren’t an immediate hit when they
were published, they did get some recognition from at least one American: John
F. Kennedy gave From Russia With Love a nod in one of his
speeches.

jokes for the day
An Antartican suddenly realizes his house is
on fire. He immediately dials 9-1-1.
The fireman answers, "Yes may I help you?"
The Antartican replies, "My house is on fire, come quick!!!"
The fireman asks, "How do we get there?"
The Antartican says, "Duh, big red truck!"

Yep,
It Really Happened
DENHAM
SPRINGS, La. - A Louisiana man busted for drunkenly riding his horse down a
stretch of highway said he believes his choices were safe because "the
horse knows the way home." The Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office said
Jake Williams drove his truck and horse trailer to a daiquiri shop in Denham
Springs and he decided to ride the horse rather than drive home in the early
morning hours Tuesday. Williams was stopped while riding the horse, named
Sugar, on the side of Highway 16. Deputies issued Williams a summons for
disturbing the peace by public intoxication. The sheriff's office said riding a
horse would not qualify Williams for a DWI. A family member was summoned to
take Williams and his horse home. Williams said he thought riding the horse
home was a good idea. "When you get a little too much to drink, why not
ride a horse?" he told WBRZ-TV. "It's safer that way. The horse knows
the way home." However, Williams said he learned his lesson from the
summons and will refrain from riding while intoxicated in the future.

All ‘data’ info is from the internet sites and is usually
checked with at least one other source, but I have learned that every site contains
mistakes and sadly once the information is out there, many sites simply copy it
and is therefore difficult to verify. Also for events occurring before the
Gregorian calendar was adopted [1582] the dates may not be totally accurate.
