Brain Teasers
(answers at the end of post)
Spazy Croonerisms 19
Language brain teasers are those
that involve the English language. You need to think about and manipulate words
and letters.
A spoonerism is a pair of words that
can have their initial sounds switched to form new words. The pairs need only
sound the same, not necessarily be spelled the same (power saw & sour paw,
horse cart & coarse heart). There may sometimes be one or two connecting
words (kick the stone & stick the cone, king of the rats & ring of the
cats). Given the following definitions, what are the spoonerisms?
1) a lock's companion and a bright-colored tropical bird & a vegetable and
a vegetable
2) a chilly tome & a courageous chef
3) a mournful song & a spoiled cold dish of vegetables served with dressing
4) an excavation of an underground ore deposit in Geneva & the winner of a
beauty pageant sponsored by pig farmers

the park. “I can feel a flea in my shoe.” “Midnight, come here,” replied the
man. “This woman has fleas.”

Yep, It Really Happened
Associated Press via The Guardian (London), --
New World Order: (1) Yet another woman gave birth to her own granddaughter in
January. Tracey Thompson, 54, offered to be the surrogate mother for her
fertility-challenged daughter, Kelley, and delivered a 6-pound, 11-ounce girl
at The Medical Center in Plano, Texas.
(2) After notable successes in the United
States, Latin America claimed in December its first transgender pregnancy
after Ecuadorean Fernando Machado announced he was expecting a child with his
partner Diane Rodriguez. Fernando used to be "Maria"; Diane used to
be "Luis"; and though both undergo hormone therapy, they have
retained their birth organs.

Somewhat Useless Information
Girl Scout cookies can have a
different name based on what bakery they come from? Samoas might be called
Caramel deLites and Trefoils called shortbread. Each council chooses a baker,
either ABC Bakers or Little Brownie Bakers. The baker will each produce a
similar cookie, but the name and recipe are slightly different.
According to the Girl Scouts website, Girl Scout cookies made their first
appearance in 1917. At the time, a troop in Oklahoma baked the cookies and sold
them in a high school cafeteria as a service project.
Cookies were baked and sold commercially in the 1930s.
The revenue from cookie sales stays within the Girl Scout councils. The
national Girl Scout organization, Girl Scouts of the USA, gets a royalty from
the licensed baker in exchange for the use of the Girl Scouts trademarks. No
other revenue from the cookie sales goes to the national organization.
The cookie program is meant to encourage girls to learn five important skills -
goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business
ethics.
These days customers can find their favorite cookies by searching for a seller
through a mobile app or ordering online from a Girl Scout they know.

All ‘data’ info is from the internet sites and is
usually checked with at least one other source, but I have learned that every
site contains mistakes and sadly once the information is out there, many sites
simply copy it and is therefore difficult to verify. Also for events occurring
before the Gregorian calendar was adopted [1582] the dates may not be totally
accurate.
